The Hoxton Hotel in Amsterdam

The Hoxton Hotel in Amsterdam

The Hoxton hotels are my current favourite in Europe. After staying at two locations in London, I was thrilled to see that the Hoxton has opened a property in the best neighborhood in Amsterdam!

Located on the Herengracht canal, the property itself is made up of 5 canal houses and was the mayor's house in the 1700's. The Hoxton Amsterdam does a great job at maintaining the historical feel while also conveying a super hip vibe. I felt right at home. Here's what I loved:

  • The Location. For my first trip to Amsterdam, this location in the area called "Nine Streets" was simply perfect. The neighborhood is filled with cafes and shops, and I could easily walk everywhere I wanted to go due to it being so central.

  • The Lobby. Like other Hoxton's, the lobby is appointed with distressed wooden tables, comfy velvet couches, leather lounge chairs and gentle lighting. The lobby is busy all day and night; I love to sit, read a book, check email and have a cappuccino while taking in the hustle and bustle of the other guests.

  • The Rooms. Each room is just so chic - minimal yet comfortable. Both the room and bathroom were well-sized with an eclectic mix of furniture and decor. And, most importantly, the bed was super comfy!

  • The Food. The hotel's restaurant, Lotti's, is popular with both locals and tourists. It's somewhat of a brasserie with locally-sourced ingredients. And the best part, other than the white bean dip I ordered via room service on my first evening? The retractable roof that opens on sunny days.

    • Every morning, the hotel provides guests with a to-go bag of yogurt, a banana and orange juice - FOR FREE. You'll find it hanging outside your door at your pre-chosen time. Oh, and the hotel provides free bottles of water. That benefit alone saved me easily 50 euros over my weekend stay.

  • The Service. From the front desk receptionists and bartenders to the cleaning crew and waitstaff, every person with whom one interacts is solely focused on delivering their guests a fantastic experience.
