The D.O.M. Hotel in Rome
I have been to Rome about 5 times in the last 2-3 years for work. I typically stay near the office for convenience but was on the lookout for a new, centrally located hotel when my boyfriend joined me on the tail end of a recent 3-week European business trip.
We tend to like small boutique hotels with not only historical charm but also luxe design and modern amenities. After lots of searching on my own, I felt pretty overwhelmed so turned to my favorite hotel site, Tablet Hotels, for help. That's where I discovered DOM Hotel. It hit all my requirements and more.
LOCATION. The hotel is in a great location on a quiet cobblestone street (Via Guilia) one block from the Tiber River in the heart of the historic center. It's nestled in between Piazza Navona, Trastevere, San Pietro and the Ghetto. Given its central location, we walked to many of our major destinations like Vatican City and the Pantheon. But it was also perfect for aimless wandering through narrow and winding cobblestone streets peppered with restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and gelato shops. When we were tired from so much walking, it was a quick taxi ride to wherever we wanted to go.
HISTORY + MODERN AESTHETIC. The hotel is a converted palace dating back to the 1600's. The architect and owner of the hotel lovingly preserved many of its ancient characteristics - high ceilings, inscribed marble, exposed bricks and tall windows. Added to create a luxe ambience were beautiful grey and silver velvet furniture, dramatic window treatments, original Warhol silkscreens and a charming, flower-filled rooftop patio for evening drinks.
ROOMS. The room in which we stayed was one of the best of all my travels. There are only 18 suites, all beautifully appointed throughout their bedroom, sitting room and bathrooms. With 30-foot high ceilings and casement windows, we barely needed to use the air conditioning despite the rather warm temperatures. The bed was beyond comfortable and its two bathrooms made getting ready so easy after running around all day!
DRINKS + EATS. In addition to the rooftop patio, the DOM has a sexy bar just of its lobby called The Deer Club. Metal stools and curved lounges with rich velvet fabric, dim lights and yes, deer antlers, make for a cool vibe. We had breakfast in the both the gorgeous dining room as well as on the small central terrace downstairs off the lobby. On a beautiful blue sky day, a croissant, fresh juice and espresso has never tasted better!
DOM Hotel has a little of everything - luxe design, deep history, modern amenities, terrific location - to make it a perfect place to start your day and wind down your evenings after perfect Roma adventures.
